Eraldo Bernocchi is an Italian composer, arranger, producer, and guitarist widely respected as an all-around sonic sculptor. He began his career in the late 1970s as a guitarist in independent punk bands before co-founding the conceptual audio project Sigillum S in the mid-1980s with Paolo Bandera and Luca di Giorgio. Over time, Sigillum S evolved into a highly regarded international cult act, establishing Bernocchi as a distinctive and innovative voice in experimental music.

Throughout the 1990s, Bernocchi expanded his artistic reach. Together with graphic designer and video artist Petulia Mattioli, he developed a series of influential audiovisual projects and cross-disciplinary collaborations. A relentless explorer of sound, he has worked with an exceptionally diverse roster of acclaimed artists, including Bill Laswell, Nils Petter Molvær, Harold Budd, Russell Mills, Toshinori Kondo, Raiz and Almamegretta, DJ Disk, Thomas Fehlmann, Zu, DJ Olive, Markus Stockhausen, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Robin Guthrie, Colin Edwin, Balázs Pándi, Hoshiko Yamane, Merzbow, Iggor Cavalera, and Flowdan, among many others.

In addition to his prolific recording and performance career, Bernocchi has composed extensively for film, advertising, and multimedia projects. His soundtrack work includes music for Academy Award–winning director Gabriele Salvatores, and he received the President of the Republic Award for Best Soundtrack for the film Denti. He has also produced numerous art installations in collaboration with Petulia Mattioli as well as artists such as Russell Mills and Harold Budd.

Uniquely, Bernocchi is recognised for having been invited to organise and perform at several special events in Italy for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, further highlighting the breadth of his artistic and cultural contributions.

In 2008, Bernocchi co-founded RareNoise Records in London with music enthusiast Giacomo Bruzzo. The label was created to champion groundbreaking and genre-defying music, and it has since become an influential platform for innovative artists worldwide ,while also releasing several Bernocchi’s own projects.

In 2018 he composed the score for Cy Dear, the first documentary film about the life of the legendary artist Cy Twombly, which has been presented at major institutions including MoMA New York, the Louvre in Paris, and the National Portrait Gallery in London.

His most recent releases include SIMM – Too Late to Dream featuring Grammy winner Flowdan; Sabi, a collaboration with Tangerine Dream member Hoshiko Yamane; Sigillum S – Aborted Towns; and Nocturnal Rainforest, created with noise icon Merzbow and metal pioneer Iggor Cavalera.

Bernocchi is also widely known for his work as a sound programmer and designer for PowerFX, Swedish synthesiser company Elektron, Latvian manufacturer Erica Synths, Polish firm Polyend, and Attack Magazine.

He currently lives in London, where he founded Transmutation Ltd, his new media company.
